이미지 콘텐츠를 공유하는 <셔터 스톡>에서 2021년 트렌드 선정에 이어 지난해 결산을 발표했다. ‘2020년의 리뷰(Year in review)’는 전 세계에서 지난 한 해 동안 발생한 유의미한 이슈를 반추하는 자리다. 사실 지난 2020년은 ‘2’와 ‘0’이라는 정돈된 숫자가 주는 기대감과 달리, 인류 모두가 예상치 못한 ‘코로나’라는 변수를 오롯이 견뎌야 하는 시기였다. 하지만 그럼에도 인류의 삶은 지속되었고, 일상 곳곳에서 희망을 발견할 수 있는 시간이었다.

물론 이 열장의 사진만으로 2020년을 담기는 역부족일 것이다. 비하인드 에피소드에 따르면 예상치 못한 코로나 바이러스의 등장에 <셔터스톡>의 에디터들은 여느 때보다 가변적인 한해를 보냈다고 한다. 사람들이 즐기는 엔터테인먼트 사진을 찍는 한 작가는 연일 지속되는 시위와 바이러스 전염병 탓에 졸지에 자신이 보도사진 작가가 되었다고 말한다. 하지만 우리는 불확실성에서 현재보다 나아지고자 하는 움직임을 보였고 희망을 찾고자 했다.
